My friend & I both started weight watchers, but she is worried because of her thyroid problem (she is currenlty on meds for it), that she will not be able to lose weight, even on this program. Has anyone here had a thyroid problem & still lost weight on this plan?

hmm? Im 15 with a underactive thyroid. I take synthroid and im sure you friend does as well. That alone would make her lose weight drammaticly and if not regular dieting should work as long as she is on medicine. Best of luck to ya
If she is taking meds for her thyroid, then yes she can lose weight.
Weight watchers is one of the best ones out there, however she should talk to a nutritionist. Her family doc can refer her to one.
Eating better does not equate weight loss, excerise it just as important to do with more healthy eating.
There is a good book out, that costs less than the Weight Watchers one and I think has better recipies.

Also, before she starts any plans, its very important for her to check with her doctor because she has a medical condition.

yes i take med too for same problem-and lost 2 stone on a diet-i was told a high protein is the best for me with this problem, hope this helps….
Yes. I have a thyroid problem for years, It will only work with medication and then it is barley crawling. But Yes,
I joined weight watchers and it has worked for me, but I have to also walk three times a week. So good luck.
I also have a thyroid problem I don’t have one! It is very very hard to lose weight no matter what you do but it sure is worth a try. I have tried every kind of diet out there and been everywhere for help with no success. The only time I lose weight is when I’m under stress. I’ve been on thyroid meds for 30 years so I can relate to your friends concerns. Tell her good luck and keep trying!!!
I know of a woman who is hypothyroid and who has lost about 95 pounds since starting weight watchers. It can be done. It’s very important though that your friend knows her lab values and that she always tests in the morning. If she is on T4, her morning TSH needs to be around 1.0 for weight loss. If she;s on T4 and T4, then she needs the free t4 to be at least midrange and the free t3 to be high in range. Best of luck to both you and your friend.
Below is a good thyroid website. Your friend needs to learn more about her condition in order to do what is best for her.
Hi, I have a hypothyroid and am on a diet. I dont use the weight watchers one though as I tried it and nothing happened for me, the medication is a killer for trying to lose weight. I got put onto a nutritionist guy who helped me and he is excellent. He advised me on my diet and got me on some products that have been checked against my medication so they were safe and so they would work. I have lost 36 pounds in five months and I feel great. You can get his advice for free, I am sure he will help you. Try http://www.myhealthabc.com, this is his site and you can in touch with him through this. Or maybe your friend can do it herslef? Either way he is really nice and I am sure he can help her. I hope this helps, it has been great for me. Good luck
