Weight Watchers – Their Life Story

March 10th, 2010

Weight Watchers was founded by Jean Nidetch in the middle of the 1960’s and her goal was to offer service and assistance to those who were looking to lose weight. She therefore offered to these people different products which helped them when dieting and thus lose the weight. Her early success in this field has now turned into a successful world wide company which operates in more than 30 countries and goes by the trademark name of “Weight Watchers”; however this can be translated into the local language of any given country if required.

Weight Watchers is made up of two different programs that a dieter can follow being either the Core program or the Points program. Each program that a dieter chooses to follow is supported by a group that helps when needed most such as during group discussions and accountability (ensuring that the dieter is reaching their target weight).

The Points program is a program which puts a numerical value on a person’s burning of energy and their actual calorie intake. Each serving of food that they consume is given a number of points and conversely different styles of exercise undertaken by a dieter will be given a negative point(s). So during a certain week each dieter will have a certain number of points that they must try to hit in accordance with the overall weight loss they wish to attain and their actual current weight.

Certainly is this respect this is where the Weight Watchers program is so very different from either the South Beach or Atkins Diets as a person on this program is not limited to what foods they can eat, but rather to how much of that food they are allowed to consume. For example, should someone wish to each more of one food that has a high points value, then they must carry out the appropriate exercise and watch the other foods that they eat throughout the rest of the week to counterbalance it. Certainly the amount of exercise that a person takes whilst on a Weight Watchers program is correlated to just how much exercise that person wants to do. So if they decide that they do not want to exercise or exercise only a little, then they can not eat as many points compared with someone who is exercising regularly, and such people can eat those foods which have a higher point’s value.

Unfortunately this type of diet is not to everyone’s liking as it makes the person accountable for what they are doing and does not allow any room for cheating. So if someone wishes to cheat on this diet, they will not be harming anyone else but themselves and their chance to lose the weight. The most annoying thing about this diet is the record keeping, a lot of people find this cumbersome as they have to make sure that they record every single food item they have eaten throughout the day and make sure that they give a point value to each item of food, if they do not then it means that they will not necessarily succeed in their overall goal of removing the unwanted weight.

Weight Watchers Diet Plan

March 7th, 2010

Type in diet plans on any online search engine and you are sure to have thousands of diets pop up. There are diets that restrict you from eating everything in a certain food group to diets that allow you to eat everything in only certain food groups. The one proven way to lose weight is calorie reduction and exercise. Weight Watchers is a diet program that practices and encourages both.

Weight Watcher’s diet plan is advertised as not being a diet but more of a way of life. This is because the principle theory behind their weight loss success lies with exercise and calorie reduction alone. They do not claim you have to eat meat and eggs together and wait two hours before eating a carbohydrate as some diets do. Weight Watcher’s bases their diet plan on the food pyramid. The system Weight Watcher’s goes by is a simple one. Currently, they have two weight loss plans. Throughout the years Weight Watcher’s has tried many different methods to meet their overall goal, but this time the systems they have in place appears to be successful ones.

Weight Watcher’s offers two different methods to achieve weight loss using their program. One method is called “Flex Plan” and the other is called “Core Plan”. The first method, the Flex Plan is a point system. Using calories, fat and fiber, each food is given a point value. Each person has a set number of points they are allowed in a day based on their current weight. Each person also has extra splurge points they are allowed to use each week. The extra points are called “flex points”. The less a person weighs the fewer points they are allowed during the course of a day. This method is essentially calorie counting without calling it that. The other system of monitoring intake Weight Watcher’s uses, in case someone does not feel like keeping track of points, is called the Core Plan. The Core Plan does not use counting points or calories, instead there is a list of food provided in which the dieter is allowed to choose foods from and consume as much as they want until they feel full. The foods on the Core Plan are supposed to be low density foods. Essentially Core foods are low calorie foods.

Weight Watcher’s diet plan also offers and recommends weekly meetings as part of their life changing goals. As with anything in life, support and consistency are essential to success with reaching a goal and maintaining it. These meetings are attended by others that have the same weight loss goals in mind. Even though the people you meet will all have different reasons for being there and wanting to lose weight, the support they provide and advice they offer may be beneficial to others. Weight Watcher’s also offers an online “e-companion” as additional support.

There are many diets on the market. Weight Watcher’s diet plan is so much more that another fad diet. This is a lifetime commitment to health. Diet and exercise not only reduce weight, they increase life expectancy. Weight Watcher’s is worth the time and money spent. One way to improve further upon the Weight Watchers plan is to integrate it with Hoodia supplementation. Hoodia is a plant that grows wild and is known for its health qualities, and its ability to curb the appetite. It is much easier to follow the Weight Watcher’s plan when the appetite is restrained and as such we advocate a Hoodia supplement program that you can learn about at the Hoodia Diet Plan [http://www.hoodiadietplan.org] website.

10 Weight Loss Tips For Weight Watchers

March 7th, 2010

Losing weight can be a challenging and ultimately rewarding experience that can help you look and feel your best. These tips can help you get started, so you can look and feel healthy and more energetic in no time.

1. Stay busy – Taking several five minute breaks in a day is just as effective as taking one thirty minute break. You can easily fit a five minute walk into your busy day, and promote weight loss.

2. Take a snack break – Eating healthy snacks, like celery and carrot sticks, is a great way to keep your metabolism going, and to feel light and fit.

3. Drink up -Another way that you can stay healthy and promote weight loss is to make sure that you get your daily allowance of water.

4. Skip the beer -Alcohol is healthy in small amounts, but do note that it contains significant amounts of sugar as well especially in drinks like beer and wine.

5. Use smaller plates – This will ensure that you are not tempted to pile up and help you limit the portion sizes.

6. Eat more often – Eating low-fat, low calorie snacks throughout the day will help keep your metabolism working, so that you burn more calories. It will also help avoid binging at meals.

7. Go whole – Skip the processed foods and include whole grains in your diet. Go for foods that are fresh and natural, since these foods are usually lower in fat and calories.

8. Invest in a food scale – Dieters often make the mistake of not watching their portions. A food scale will help you know exactly what goes into each serving and how much to eat.

9. Weigh weekly – Weighing yourself daily is not the right way to keep track of your weight. Weigh yourself once a week is sufficient to tell you how you are faring.

10. Don’t Give Up! – Dieting can take weeks to show on the scale or on your waistline, since your body has to adjust to the changes in food intake. Keep exercising and eating right and you are bound to see the desired results.
